  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution remembering and honoring the life

  3         and accomplishments of Isabell Queen Williams

  4         through her social action and public service to

  5         her community, the State of Florida, and the

  6         Bahamas.

  7  

  8         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams was born and raised in

  9  Dade County, Florida, educated in Dade County public schools,

10  and graduated from Miami Northwestern High School in 1961, and

11         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams graduated in 1966 from

12  Bethune-Cookman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in

13  English and later obtained a Master of Science degree and an

14  Educational Specialist degree from Nova University, and

15         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams worked in the Broward

16  County School System from 1966 to 1997, a period of 31 years,

17  during which time she served as classroom teacher, guidance

18  counselor, adult education instructor, and assistant

19  principal, and

20         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams also worked as a

21  counselor and supervisor in the Metropolitan Dade County

22  Summer Youth Program from 1975 to 1984, was a co-owner of

23  Royal Funeral Services in Miami, and operated RSVP Consultant

24  Services, and

25         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams was actively engaged in

26  public service through involvement with Democratic politics,

27  working as a Legislative Assistant to State Representative

28  Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall and in a similar capacity for

29  former State Senator Kendrick Meek, and

30         WHEREAS, throughout her adult life until her untimely

31  death on July 27, 2001, Isabell Queen Williams was a faithful

 1  servant of God, working tirelessly and selflessly in her

 2  church, her sorority, and her community to help others acquire

 3  the education, training, skills, and resources needed to

 4  succeed in life, and

 5         WHEREAS, Isabell Queen Williams was an obedient

 6  daughter, faithful sister, dedicated wife, caring mother,

 7  steadfast friend, and a remarkably accomplished person in

 8  every part of her life, who exemplified the ideals on which

 9  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was founded, modeling

10  sisterhood in her personal and professional relations with

11  other sorority members, achieving high scholastic standards,

12  and involving herself actively and responsibly in public

13  affairs, NOW, THEREFORE,

14  

15  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

16  

17         That this legislative body does pause in its

18  deliberations to remember and honor the life, work, and

19  outstanding accomplishments of Isabell Queen Williams in the

20  education profession, in service to Delta Sigma Theta

21  Sorority, Inc., in support of her church, and in social action

22  and public service to her community, the State of Florida, and

23  the Bahamas.
