  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing Earl J. Lennard,

  3         Ph.D., for his contributions to Hillsborough

  4         County and the State of Florida as a

  5         distinguished educator and for being named

  6         "State School Superintendent of the Year" by

  7         the Florida Association of School

  8         Superintendents.

  9  

10         WHEREAS, Earl J. Lennard, Ph.D., was born in

11  Hillsborough County, Florida, in 1942 and received his

12  secondary education in the public schools of that county, and

13         WHEREAS, Dr. Lennard was awarded bachelor and doctoral

14  degrees from the University of South Florida, also in

15  Hillsborough County, and

16         WHEREAS, Dr. Lennard has spent his professional life in

17  service to the School District of Hillsborough County and has

18  raised and educated his own children within the district, and

19         WHEREAS, Dr. Lennard was named Superintendent of the

20  district in 1996 and has served with distinction since that

21  time, building the district's reputation as one of innovation

22  with positive results for the children it serves, making it an

23  ongoing role model for the other 66 public school districts in

24  the state, and

25         WHEREAS, Dr. Lennard is an active participant in his

26  community in volunteer service to many charitable and civic

27  organizations and works tirelessly on a number of boards,

28  authorities, and commissions as an educational professional,

29  and

30         WHEREAS, Dr. Lennard was recognized for his

31  professionalism and expertise by being named State School

 1  Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of

 2  School Superintendents during a joint conference in Tampa with

 3  the Florida School Boards Association on December 4, 2002,

 4  NOW, THEREFORE,

 5  

 6  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 7  

 8         That the members of the Florida Senate salute Dr. Earl

 9  Lennard as one of Hillsborough County's consummate role models

10  and distinguished residents and as an educator extraordinaire.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

12  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Earl J.

13  Lennard, Ph.D., as a token of the sentiments of the Florida

14  Senate.
