  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution commending the National Kidney

  3         Foundation for its many contributions and

  4         recognizing March 2003 as "National Kidney

  5         Month" in the State of Florida.

  6  

  7         WHEREAS, one in nine adults--more than 20 million

  8  Americans--has kidney disease, and most don't know it; and

  9  another 20 million Americans are at risk of developing the

10  disease due to diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family

11  history of kidney disease, and

12         WHEREAS, more than 345,000 Americans, including

13  approximately 18,000 Floridians, suffer from chronic kidney

14  failure and require dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant

15  to stay alive, and

16         WHEREAS, the National Kidney Foundation is the major

17  voluntary health agency seeking prevention and cures for

18  diseases of the kidney and urinary tract nationally and in

19  Florida, and

20         WHEREAS, the National Kidney Foundation is universally

21  respected and recognized as a leader in research and in

22  promoting public awareness of kidney disease and of the need

23  for organ donors, and

24         WHEREAS, the volunteers and staff of the National

25  Kidney Foundation of Florida spend countless hours working to

26  help ease the plight of dialysis patients, transplant

27  recipients, and others in our community suffering from kidney

28  disease, NOW THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 1         That the Florida Senate commends the invaluable

 2  contributions that the National Kidney Foundation makes to the

 3  people of this state by promoting awareness of kidney disease

 4  and assisting those who suffer from kidney disease, and

 5  recognizes March 2003 as "National Kidney Month" in the State

 6  of Florida.
