2 A resolution recognizing March 20, 2003, as
3 Florida Dental Hygiene Association Smile Day.

5 WHEREAS, the health and welfare of residents of this
6 state are of paramount concerns to the Legislature, and
7 WHEREAS, poor oral health leads to the unnecessary loss
8 of teeth and has been linked to cardiovascular problems,
9 serious respiratory infections, and other significant
10 diseases, and
11 WHEREAS, regular professional cleanings and other
12 preventative services provided by licensed dental hygienists
13 are highly effective in maintaining good oral health, and
14 WHEREAS, dental hygienists are licensed professionals
15 who complete a minimum 2-year accredited college program to
16 prepare them with the expertise and clinical skills needed to
17 provide safe and competent service to their patients, and
18 WHEREAS, dental hygienists help promote and foster oral
19 hygiene and education, and
20 WHEREAS, there are 13,610 licensed dental hygienists in
21 this state, and
22 WHEREAS, the Florida Dental Hygiene Association
23 represents the profession of dental hygiene, and
24 WHEREAS, members of the Florida Dental Hygiene
25 Association have traveled to Tallahassee on March 20, 2003, to
26 sponsor Smile Day, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

30 That the Florida Senate recognizes March 20, 2003, as
31 Florida Dental Hygiene Association Day.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
2 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
