  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 2-3, 2003, as

  3         "Miami-Dade County Days" in the State of

  4         Florida.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County, Florida, is a center of

  7  world finance, with over 150 financial institutions and

  8  foreign agencies within its geographic boundaries; a major

  9  tourist destination for millions of travelers annually from

10  virtually everywhere in the world; and a preeminent gateway to

11  international trade, particularly countries in Europe, the

12  Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, and Central and South

13  America, and

14         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a boom in

15  cultural activities and world-class entertainment, with more

16  than 1,000 nonprofit organizations presenting dance, theatre,

17  music, visual arts, festivals, and other special events, and a

18  state-of-the-art performing arts center, and

19         WHEREAS, in 2001, sales estimated at $2.5 billion were

20  transacted as a direct result of business operations generated

21  by the film and television industry in Miami-Dade County,

22  making the county one of the largest visual media production

23  centers in the nation, and

24         WHEREAS, in the past 15 years, the growth and

25  development of Miami-Dade County has been dynamic, as

26  indicated by continuing increases in the number of

27  international and domestic travelers passing through the Port

28  of Miami and Miami International Airport, the volume of goods

29  being transported through the port and the airport, and the

30  number of municipalities within the county having increased

31  from 27 to 33, and

 1         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County has become one of the

 2  largest, most vibrant, and most economically prosperous

 3  metropolitan areas in the world, NOW, THEREFORE,

 4  

 5  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 6  

 7         That the Florida Senate recognizes the extraordinary

 8  importance and value of Miami-Dade County to the State of

 9  Florida, commends its diverse growth and economic prosperity,

10  and celebrates April 2-3, 2003, as "Miami-Dade County Days" in

11  the State of Florida.
