  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to crisis intervention team

  3         program study; directing the Louis de la Parte

  4         Florida Mental Health Institute at the

  5         University of South Florida to conduct a study

  6         of the crisis intervention team program being

  7         used by the City of Miami; providing purpose of

  8         the study; providing for a report; providing an

  9         effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12  

13         Section 1.  The Louis de la Parte Mental Health

14  Institute at the University of South Florida shall conduct a

15  study of the crisis intervention team program being used by

16  the City of Miami. The purpose of the study shall be to

17  determine the cost-effectiveness of the utilization of the

18  program by other law enforcement agencies.  The institute

19  shall submit to the Legislature a report of the findings of

20  its study, which shall include a determination of whether such

21  training should be required as a condition of employment for

22  law enforcement officers, by July 1, 2004.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

24  law.
