2 A resolution recognizing March 27, 2003, as
3 "Florida Space Industry Day."

5 WHEREAS, Florida has been the world's premier gateway
6 to space for human exploration, national defense, and commerce
7 for more than 50 years, and
8 WHEREAS, Florida's space industry is a statewide
9 enterprise providing high-technology, high-paying jobs in
10 fields that include manufacturing, technology development,
11 services, and space tourism, and
12 WHEREAS, Florida's military space programs develop, and
13 deliver to orbit, satellites that enable intelligence
14 gathering and national defense, and
15 WHEREAS, universities throughout this state are
16 performing leading-edge research and technology development in
17 a number of rapidly expanding fields, and
18 WHEREAS, Florida educators are applying space education
19 to create new opportunities for learning and discovery and for
20 inspiring the next generation of explorers, and
21 WHEREAS, Florida's space community is working
22 tirelessly to overcome the loss of the Columbia and her crew
23 in order to safely resume human space flight, NOW, THEREFORE,

25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

27 That the Florida Senate recognizes March 27, 2003, as
28 "Florida Space Industry Day," and commends Florida's space
29 industry for its contributions to the state's economy,
30 national defense, space exploration, and education.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida Senate commends
2 Florida's federal, state, and private organizations and
3 educators for their contributions to the state's economy, to
