  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing January 27, 2063, as

  3         "Heritage Day" in Homestead, Florida.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, January 27, 2003, was the 90th anniversary of

  6  the date on which Homestead, Florida, was established, and the

  7  day on which the city began a yearlong celebration of its 90th

  8  anniversary by placing artifacts, family keepsakes, historical

  9  information, and other items of historical significance into a

10  time capsule to be opened on January 27, 2063, in celebration

11  of what will be its 150th anniversary, and

12         WHEREAS, the items placed in the time capsule are

13  intended to instill in the future residents of Homestead a

14  deep and lasting appreciation for the history and heritage of

15  their city, from its evolution as an agricultural community,

16  to its becoming the home of a major military base supporting

17  our nation's armed forces through World War I, to the current

18  war against terrorism, and to becoming a dynamic South Florida

19  residential community, and

20         WHEREAS, the Mayor, Roscoe Warren, the Vice Mayor,

21  Steven D. Losner, and the other members of the City Council,

22  Eddie Berrones, Nicholas R. Sinclore, Steven C. Bateman,

23  Jeffrey D. Porter, and Judy Waldman, have expressed great hope

24  and best wishes for the future of Homestead and its residents,

25  and to all people of future generations who live in Homestead,

26  and have called on all of them, upon opening the time capsule

27  on January 27, 2063, to pause and reflect on the

28  accomplishments of those who preceded them, NOW, THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 1         That the Florida Senate recognizes the historic

 2  accomplishments of those who settled and pioneered the

 3  development of Homestead, commends its present and future

 4  residents for perpetuating the city's rich heritage of

 5  achieving prosperity through responsible leadership, and

 6  recognizes January 27, 2063, as "Heritage Day" in Homestead,

 7  Florida.

 8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 9  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Roscoe

10  Warren, Mayor of Homestead, Florida, as a tangible token of

11  the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
