  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to enterprise zones; amending

  3         s. 290.00698, F.S.; authorizing the Office of

  4         Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development to

  5         approve a request to amend the boundaries of

  6         the enterprise zone designated for Okaloosa

  7         County; providing limitations; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Section 290.00698, Florida Statutes, is

13  amended to read:

14         290.00698  Enterprise zone designation for Okaloosa

15  County.--

16         (1)  Okaloosa County may apply to the Office of

17  Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development for designation of

18  one enterprise zone within an area in Okaloosa County, which

19  zone encompasses an area up to 6 square miles.  The

20  application must be submitted by December 31, 2001, and must

21  comply with the requirements of s. 290.0055, except subsection

22  (3) thereof. Notwithstanding the provisions of s. 290.0065

23  limiting the total number of enterprise zones designated and

24  the number of enterprise zones within a population category,

25  the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development may

26  designate one enterprise zone under this section. The Office

27  of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development shall establish

28  the initial effective date of the enterprise zone designated

29  pursuant to this section.

30         (2)  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the

31  Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development may approve

 1  a request by Okaloosa County to amend the boundaries of the

 2  area designated as an enterprise zone under this section if

 3  the amendment does not increase the overall size of the

 4  enterprise zone by more than 1 square mile. The amendment must

 5  also be consistent with the limitations imposed by s.

 6  290.0055. Such request must be submitted to the office before

 7  December 31, 2003.

 8         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 9  law.

12                          SENATE SUMMARY

13    Authorizes the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic
      Development to approve a request to amend the boundaries
14    of the Okaloosa County Enterprise Zone if the amendment
      does not increase the size of the zone by more than 1
15    square mile and is submitted before December 31, 2003.
