  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing Ocala/Marion County,

  3         Florida, as "The Horse Capital of the World."

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Ocala/Marion County, Florida, is home to more

  6  than 30,000 Thoroughbred horses, and

  7         WHEREAS, the Thoroughbred horse industry provides

  8  gainful employment to more than 11,000 residents of Marion

  9  County, and

10         WHEREAS, the Thoroughbred horse industry annually

11  generates more than $1 billion in revenue for the economy of

12  Marion County, and

13         WHEREAS, the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners'

14  Association is headquartered in Ocala/Marion County, is an

15  active supporter of many worthy causes within the county, and

16  was a moving force behind "Horse Fever," a community program

17  combining the love of horses and art into a phenomenal public

18  art display that captured the imagination of all who saw it,

19  and

20         WHEREAS, the Thoroughbred horse industry has identified

21  and distinguished Ocala/Marion County as the preeminent home

22  of Thoroughbred horses, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  

24  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

25  

26         That the Florida Senate acknowledges the many benefits

27  the Thoroughbred horse industry has bestowed on the people of

28  Ocala/Marion County and the State of Florida and recognizes

29  Ocala/Marion County, Florida, as "The Horse Capital of the

30  World."
