  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring the former President and

  3         Chief Executive Officer of All Children's

  4         Hospital, J. Dennis Sexton.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, All Children's Hospital, Inc., is the leading

  7  children's hospital in West Central Florida, providing

  8  specialty and sub-specialty pediatric care, and

  9         WHEREAS, J. Dennis Sexton joined All Children's

10  Hospital as the Director of Development and Community

11  Relations in July 1971, and was named President and CEO of All

12  Children's Hospital in February 1973, and

13         WHEREAS, during Mr. Sexton's tenure at All Children's

14  Hospital gross revenues increased from $1.9 million to more

15  than $367 million; the number of hospital employees increased

16  from 165 to 2,115; inpatient admissions increased from 3,931

17  to 8,768; and outpatient visits increased from 12,379 to

18  199,610, and

19         WHEREAS, J. Dennis Sexton established funding matched

20  by the Florida Legislature for seven Chairs dedicated to

21  pediatric research in the fields of molecular genetics,

22  developmental biology, immunodeficiency, immunology, perinatal

23  cardiology, heart development, child health policy, and two

24  Chairs in pediatric clinical research and pulmonology, which

25  are awaiting the match in the Legislature, with a combined

26  dollar value, for all nine Chairs of $26 million, and

27         WHEREAS, Mr. Sexton has also worked to establish

28  clinics to reach out to children and families in Pinellas,

29  Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Sarasota, Lee, and Citrus Counties,

 1         WHEREAS, J. Dennis Sexton has also served as a member

 2  of the Florida Hospital Cost Containment Board, the Florida

 3  Perinatal Advisory Council, the Children's Medical Services

 4  Pediatric Network Advisory Council, the Pediatric Standards

 5  Advisory Council, the Campus Advisory Board of the University

 6  of South Florida, and the Children's Miracle Network board and

 7  as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National

 8  Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions

 9  (NACHRI), and

10         WHEREAS, Mr. Sexton's service to the children of the

11  state of Florida, as well as the nation, has greatly improved

12  the quality of pediatric healthcare in treatment, teaching,

13  and research, and

14         WHEREAS, J. Dennis Sexton retired January 3, 2003,

15  after 31 years of service to All Children's Hospital, NOW,

16  THEREFORE,

18  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

19  

20         That the Florida Senate recognizes J. Dennis Sexton for

21  his 31 years of exemplary service and leadership at All

22  Children's Hospital and congratulates him on his retirement.

23         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

24  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to J. Dennis

25  Sexton as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida

26  Senate.
