  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing and honoring Dexter

  3         Lamar Jackson for his extraordinary

  4         achievements.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Dexter Lamar Jackson was born July 28, 1977,

  7  in Quincy, Florida, to Lula and the late Wilber "Red" Jackson,

  8  and was raised and educated in Gadsden County, Florida,

  9  graduating from James A. Shanks High School, where he achieved

10  stardom in football, basketball, and track, and

11         WHEREAS, before graduating from high school, Dexter

12  Lamar Jackson accepted a grant-in-aid scholarship to play

13  football at Florida State University, where he achieved

14  stardom in his performances at free safety, and was selected

15  by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 4th round of the 1999 NFL

16  Draft, and

17         WHEREAS, in 2001 preseason drills, Dexter Lamar Jackson

18  became the starting free safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,

19  a position he thereafter retained and in which he continually

20  excelled, becoming a leader on the team widely considered to

21  have the best defense in the NFL, and

22         WHEREAS, Dexter Lamar Jackson achieved superstardom in

23  his performances as free safety in Super Bowl XXXVII,

24  intercepting two passes in critically important situations to

25  enable the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to gain the momentum needed to

26  establish control of the game, dominate the Oakland Raiders,

27  decidedly win the game, and become the 2003 World Champions in

28  professional football, and

29         WHEREAS, in recognition of the critical value of his

30  performances in the game, Dexter Lamar Jackson was voted Most

31  Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXVII, becoming only the 3rd

 1  defensive back and the 7th defensive player in Super Bowl

 2  history to win that award, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That the Florida Senate recognizes Dexter Lamar Jackson

 7  for his extraordinary achievements, and commends him for the

 8  great honor he has brought to the State of Florida in being

 9  voted Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXVII.

10         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

11  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Dexter

12  Lamar Jackson as a tangible token of the sentiments of the

13  Florida Senate.
