1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution supporting the right of the people
3 of Taiwan to participate in United Nations and
4 World Health Organization affairs and to decide
5 their own future.

7 WHEREAS, the people of the State of Florida enjoy a
8 good relationship of economic cooperation and cultural
9 exchange with the people of Taiwan, and
10 WHEREAS, Taiwan is a democratic country with an economy
11 complementary to that of the United States and a peace-loving
12 culture that shares our cherished values of freedom and human
13 rights, and
14 WHEREAS, the exclusion of Taiwan from the United
15 Nations and its specialized agencies, such as the World Health
16 Organization, has not only weakened the foundation of peace
17 and security in East Asia, but has also hampered the
18 cross-border precautionary mechanism against infectious
19 diseases such as HIV/AIDS, entrovirus, Denge fever, and SARS,
20 and
21 WHEREAS, an isolated Taiwan is not in the interest of
22 our goals of promoting peace, democracy, and prosperity in the
23 Asia Pacific region, and
24 WHEREAS, a threatened Taiwan will not frighten the
25 Taiwanese people into giving up their pursuit of freedom,
26 equality, and dignity, and
27 WHEREAS, the members of The Florida Senate are
28 seriously concerned about our mutual interests with Taiwan,
29 our important trading partner, good friend, and long-standing
30 ally, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the members of this body join unanimously to urge
4 the United Nations and the World Health Organization to
5 facilitate Taiwan's participation and contribution.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body
7 join unanimously in support of a free and democratic Taiwan.
