1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Lee County Sheriff's
3 Office, Lee County; amending chapter 74-522,
4 Laws of Florida, as amended; providing for a
5 retiree having less than 20 years of service to
6 pay the health insurance benefits of his or her
7 dependents; providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (2) of section
12 15 of chapter 74-522, Laws of Florida, as amended by chapter
13 99-434, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:
14 Section 15.
15 (2) Effective October 1, 1986 and thereafter, it is
16 the duty of the sheriff of Lee County to provide annually in
17 his budget a sufficient sum of money to pay a percentage of
18 the cost of the health insurance of members of the Lee County
19 Sheriff's Office who retire from active service after having
20 accumulated at least 15 years of creditable service under the
21 Florida Retirement System. The health insurance costs payable
22 pursuant to this section include premiums for major medical
23 and hospitalization insurance, but do not include premiums for
24 dental insurance. When a retiree receiving this health
25 insurance benefit becomes eligible for Medicare, his health
26 coverage will convert to the Medicare Supplement health
27 insurance.
28 (f) The Lee County Sheriff's Office shall pay for the
29 health insurance coverage of the retiree only. A retiree who
30 obtains benefits without attaining 20 years of service The
31 retiree may pay for the health insurance of his or her

1 dependents. Upon a retiree's death, his or her spouse may
2 continue the health insurance coverage previously provided by
3 the retiree. Premiums must be paid to the Lee County Sheriff's
4 Office.
5 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
6 law.
