2 A resolution recognizing April 16, 2003, as
3 "Warren S. Henderson Day" in the State of
4 Florida.

6 WHEREAS, Warren S. Henderson was born November 14,
7 1927, in Exeter, New Hampshire, graduated from Denison
8 University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, moved to
9 Florida in 1955, settled in Sarasota County, and became
10 involved in civic affairs and public service, and
11 WHEREAS, in 1956, Warren S. Henderson initiated his
12 career in public service by serving as a member of the
13 Sarasota Planning and Zoning Committee, and from 1960 to 1963
14 served as a member of the Sarasota Juvenile Merit Board, as a
15 member and chairman of the Sarasota County Water & Navigation
16 Control Authority, the Manatee-Sarasota Airport Authority, and
17 the Sarasota County Board of Commissioners, and
18 WHEREAS, in 1963, Warren S. Henderson was elected to
19 the Florida Senate for a term that, due to reapportionment,
20 ended in 1966, when he was elected to the Florida House of
21 Representatives for a 1-year term, at the expiration of which
22 he was again elected to the Florida Senate, where he served
23 from 1967 to 1984, and
24 WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Florida Senate,
25 Senator Henderson was a prominent leader of the Republican
26 party and served with distinction in many leadership roles,
27 including chairman of the Committee on Resolutions and
28 Memorials (1963), chairman of the Committee on Motor Vehicles
29 (1965), Senate Minority Leader (1970-1972), chairman of the
30 Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform (1975), and Vice Chair of
31 the Committee on Natural Resources (1978-1980), and

1 WHEREAS, Senator Henderson was an effective advocate
2 for a wide variety of environmental issues with legislation
3 named after him, and
4 WHEREAS, he was the primary architect of a
5 constellation of pro-child legislation such as that creating
6 Children's Medical Services, then the primary state unit
7 responsible for children with special health care needs, and
8 WHEREAS, Senator Henderson has rendered many years of
9 invaluable public service to the people of Sarasota County, to
10 the people of the districts from which he was elected and to
11 the people of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

13 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
14
15 That the Florida Senate recognizes April 16, 2003, as
16 "Warren S. Henderson Day" in the State of Florida.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
18 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Warren S.
19 Henderson as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida
20 Senate.
