  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 24, 2003, as

  3         "Clean Marina Day" in the State of Florida.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, the State of Florida, with its unique natural

  6  resources, offers special water-related recreational

  7  activities to Floridians and to people who visit the state

  8  from around the world, and

  9         WHEREAS, Floridians place a high value on the outdoor

10  recreational opportunities available through our access to

11  some of the world's greatest natural resources, our rivers,

12  lakes, and ocean waters, and

13         WHEREAS, with 1.3 million residents annually

14  participating, boating is one of Florida's leading outdoor

15  recreational activities, and

16         WHEREAS, Florida is home to more than 2,000 marinas and

17  to many of the state's 940,000 registered vessels, annually

18  providing services to more than 400,000 vessels visiting the

19  state and continually providing residents and visitors with

20  abundant access to recreational boating, and

21         WHEREAS, in 2000, the Florida Department of

22  Environmental Protection formed the Clean Boating Partnership

23  to work with the marine industry to create the most

24  environmentally protected way for the state's residents and

25  visitors to make use of Florida's renowned waterways for

26  recreational boating, and

27         WHEREAS, under the Clean Boating Partnership, over 60

28  Florida marinas have been classified as "Clean" for achieving

29  higher environmental standards in their boating operations,

 1         WHEREAS, Florida's "Clean" marinas have made the

 2  commitment to demonstrate good stewardship in protecting the

 3  environment of the state's waterways for the enjoyment and

 4  benefit of present and future generations, NOW, THEREFORE,

 5  

 6  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 7  

 8         That the Florida Senate recognizes April 24, 2003, as

 9  "Clean Marina Day" in the State of Florida.
