2 A resolution recognizing and honoring United
3 States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Brian Rory
4 Buesing.

6 WHEREAS, Brian Rory Buesing was born in Tampa, Florida,
7 was raised in Pasco, Citrus, and Levy counties, and was
8 educated in the public schools of Levy County, Florida,
9 graduating in May 2000 from Cedar Key High School, and
10 WHEREAS, Brian was athletic, adventuresome, and
11 fearless, a popular, outgoing, and gregarious young man who
12 loved life, people, and the opportunity to lend a helping
13 hand, an All-American Boy who was a passionate patriot, and
14 WHEREAS, before graduating from high school, Brian knew
15 he wanted to follow the military paths of his grandfather, who
16 served in the United States Marine Corps and received a Silver
17 Star for his bravery under fire in the Korean War, and his
18 father, who also served in the United States Marine Corps, and
19 WHEREAS, in June 2000, Brian enlisted in the United
20 States Marine Corps, went to Boot Camp in North Carolina at
21 Parris Island, trained at Camp LeJeune and in Okinawa, and was
22 assigned to the 1st Batallion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine
23 Expeditionary Brigade, Weapons Platoon, an infantryman
24 specializing in firing mortars, and
25 WHEREAS, on Sunday, March 23, 2003, Brian and eight
26 other brave young men serving their country in the United
27 States Marine Corps were killed while disembarking from an
28 armed personnel carrier to approach a unit of Iraqi soldiers
29 who had signaled they were surrendering but began firing
30 rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons as the Marines
31 approached, and

1 WHEREAS, the tragic death of Brian Rory Buesing is an
2 irreplaceable loss to his family, his community, the State of
3 Florida, and the nation, NOW, THEREFORE,
4
5 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
6
7 That the Florida Senate recognizes and honors United
8 States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Brian Rory Buesing for his
9 patriotic spirit, his selfless commitment to free an oppressed
10 people from tyrannical rule, his courageous actions when in
11 harm's way, and his legacy of giving his all to secure the
12 freedoms on which our nation was founded.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
14 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
15 parents of Brian Rory Buesing as a token of the heartfelt
16 sympathy and the esteem of the Florida Senate.
