An act relating to food safety; creating s. 500.033, F.S.; |

creating the Florida Food Safety Advisory Council as a |

forum for evaluation of food safety issues; providing |

|
membership; requiring reporting of findings and |

|
recommendations; providing appropriations; providing an |
7
|
effective date. |

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

|
|

Section 1. Section 500.033, Florida Statutes, is created |
12
|
to read: |

|
500.033 Florida Food Safety Advisory Council.--There is |
14
|
created the Florida Food Safety Advisory Council for the purpose |
15
|
of serving as a forum for presenting, investigating, and |
16
|
evaluating issues of current importance to the assurance of a |
17
|
safe food supply to the citizens of Florida. The Florida Food |
18
|
Safety Advisory Council shall consist of, but not be limited to: |
19
|
members representing the production, processing, distribution, |
20
|
and sale of foods; consumers and/or members of citizens groups; |
21
|
scientists or other experts in aspects of food safety from state |
22
|
universities; representatives from local, state, and federal |
23
|
agencies that are charged with responsibilities for food safety; |
24
|
and the chairs of the agriculture committees of the Senate and |
25
|
the House of Representatives or their designees. The |
26
|
Commissioner of Agriculture shall appoint the council members. |

|
The council shall make periodic reports to the Department of |
28
|
Agriculture and Consumer Services concerning findings and |
29
|
recommendations in the area of food safety. |

Section 2.There is hereby provided a continuing |
31
|
appropriation in the expenses category the sum of $5,000 from |
32
|
the Contracts and Grants Trust Fund to the Department of |
33
|
Agriculture and Consumer Services and the sum of $5,000 from the |
34
|
General Inspection Trust Fund to the Department of Agriculture |
35
|
and Consumer Services for use in payment of associated costs in |
36
|
the conduct of activities of the Florida Food Safety Advisory |
37
|
Council. |

|
Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003. |
