  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing and commending the

  3         Kobayashi Dojo Team for winning the Gold Medal

  4         in the Performance Division of the 2002 USA

  5         National Karate-do Federation Tournament.

  6  

  7         WHEREAS, the Kobayashi Dojo Team of Coral Springs,

  8  Florida, made up of children 7 to 15 years of age, competed

  9  with 6,400 other young people in the USA National Karate-do

10  Federation Tournament in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 20, 2002,

11  and won the gold medal in the Performance Division of the

12  competition, and

13         WHEREAS, the coaches of the Kobayashi Dojo Team are

14  Bernie Dougherty and Yuki Dougherty, and the members of the

15  team are Stephen Cross, Eric J. Dino, Daichi Dougherty, Miko

16  Dougherty, Khoi Duong, Robert Hanna, Erin Hodson, Bruce James,

17  Jr., Christian Jurney, Max Peugues, Anthony Rosado, Bencis

18  Sanchez, Chelsea Spiro, Evan Thompson, Alexandra Wilson, and

19  Zackary Wilson, and

20         WHEREAS, the team routinely performs free Karate

21  demonstrations in and around Cape Coral to entertain and

22  promote good will for numerous organizations, such as the

23  American Cancer Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and

24  the Westbay Retirement Home, and

25         WHEREAS, the team's civic activities and successes in

26  Karate competitions bring distinctive honor to the State of

27  Florida and its citizens, especially those who reside in Cape

28  Coral and Lee County, by exemplifying the responsible

29  citizenship and competitive excellence a group of young men

30  and women can attain by combining their talents and

 1  disciplining themselves in work to excel in performing the art

 2  of Karate, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends the

 7  Kobayashi Dojo Team of Coral Springs, Florida, for its

 8  outstanding accomplishments in competition at the July 20,

 9  2002, USA National Karate-do Federation Tournament in Norfolk,

10  Virginia, and for its responsible citizenship in routinely

11  performing free Karate demonstrations for community service

12  organizations in and around Cape Coral.

13         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

14  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

15  Kobayashi Dojo Team of Coral Springs, Florida, as a tangible

16  token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
