1 A bill to be entitled
2          An act relating to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee
3    County; amending chapter 74-522, Laws of Florida, as
4    amended; revising the health insurance coverage of
5    retirees to include partial payment for dependents;
6    providing an effective date.

8          Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
9         
10          Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (2) of section 15
11    of chapter 74-522, Laws of Florida, as amended by chapter 99-
12    434, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:
13          Section 15.
14          (2) Effective October 1, 1986 and thereafter, it is the
15    duty of the sheriff of Lee County to provide annually in his
16    budget a sufficient sum of money to pay a percentage of the cost
17    of the health insurance of members of the Lee County Sheriff’s
18    Office who retire from active service after having accumulated
19    at least 15 years of creditable service under the Florida
20    Retirement System. The health insurance costs payable pursuant
21    to this section include premiums for major medical and
22    hospitalization insurance, but do not include premiums for
23    dental insurance. When a retiree receiving this health insurance
24    benefit becomes eligible for Medicare, his health coverage will
25    convert to the Medicare Supplement health insurance.
26          (f) The Lee County Sheriff’s Office shall pay for the
27    health insurance coverage of the retiree and 50 percent of his
28    or her dependents' health insurance coverage only if the
29    retiree’s health insurance is paid at 100 percent of the premium
30    at 20 years of serviceonly. A retiree who obtains benefits
31    without attaining 20 years of serviceThe retireemay pay for
32    the health insurance of his or herdependents. Upon a retiree’s
33    death, his or herspouse may continue the health insurance
34    coverage previously provided by the retiree. Premiums must be
35    paid to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
36          Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
