  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing and commending the

  3         Fort Myers 80-Plus Senior Softball Team for

  4         winning the 80-Plus Senior Softball World

  5         Series and becoming the 2002 National Champions

  6         of 80-plus senior softball competition.

  7  

  8         WHEREAS, the Fort Myers 80-Plus Senior Softball Team is

  9  based in Fort Myers, Florida, and is made up of men who are 79

10  or more years of age, and

11         WHEREAS, the team's members are Casey Bibiro, Earl

12  Laplan, Jim Batchlor, Carman Rankin, Ralph Grover, Bill Flock,

13  Mike Madore, Bobby Deyer, Norm Rhodes, Frank Korowitz, Gerry

14  Cook, John Pipher, Fred Wright, Earl Sturm, Len Obery, and

15  Gene Higham, who also served as team manager, and

16         WHEREAS, the team, in August, 2002, participated in and

17  won the 80-Plus Senior Softball World Series in Des Moines,

18  Iowa, thereby becoming the 2002 National Champions of 80-plus

19  senior softball, and

20         WHEREAS, the team's 2002 accomplishments in 80-plus

21  senior softball competition bring distinctive honor to the

22  State of Florida and its citizens, especially those who reside

23  in and about the Fort Myers, Florida, area, by exemplifying

24  the superlative status a group of senior men can attain by

25  combining their talents and committing themselves in work to

26  excel in playing the game of softball, NOW, THEREFORE,

27  

28  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

29  

30         That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends the

31  Fort Myers 80-Plus Senior Softball Team for accomplishing the

 1  remarkable feat of winning the 2002 World Series for 80-plus

 2  senior softball, and becoming the 2002 National Champions of

 3  80-plus senior softball.

 4         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 5  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Fort

 6  Myers, Florida, 80-Plus Senior Softball Team as a tangible

 7  token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
