  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the practice of hair

  3         braiding; amending s. 477.013, F.S.; redefining

  4         the term "hair braiding" for purposes of

  5         chapter 477, F.S., relating to the practice of

  6         cosmetology; providing that the term includes

  7         the weaving or interweaving of hair extensions

  8         or wefts; providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Subsection (9) of section 477.013, Florida

13  Statutes, is amended to read:

14         477.013  Definitions.--As used in this chapter:

15         (9)  "Hair braiding" means the weaving or interweaving

16  of natural human hair, or hair extensions or wefts, for the

17  purpose of performing braided hair styles for compensation.

18  The term does not include without cutting, coloring, permanent

19  waving, relaxing, removing, or the chemical treatment of

20  natural hair and does not include the use of hair extensions

21  or wefts.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.

25                          SENATE SUMMARY

26    For purposes of ch. 477, F.S., which regulates the
      practice of cosmetology, redefines the term "hair
27    braiding" to include the weaving or interweaving of hair
      extensions or wefts.
