343.58 County funding for the South Florida Regional |
20
Transportation Authority; license user fee.-- |
21
(1) Each county served by the South Florida Regional |
22
Transportation Authority must dedicate $2.67 million to that |
23
authority annually. The recurring annual $2.67 million must be |
24
dedicated by the governing body of each county by August 1, |
25
2003. Notwithstanding ss. 206.41 and 206.87, Florida Statutes, |
26
such dedicated funding may come from each county's share of the |
27
ninth-cent fuel tax, the local option fuel tax, or any other |
28
source of local gas taxes or other nonfederal funds available to |
29
the counties. The Legislature authorizes the levy of an annual |
30
license user fee in the amount of $2 for the registration of |
31
each vehicle taxed under s. 320.08 and registered in the area |
32
served by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority. |
33
The annual license user fee shall take effect in the area served |
34
by the authority upon approval by a vote of at least two-thirds |
35
of the members of the governing body of each of the counties |
36
served by the authority. Following approval by the governing |
37
body of each of the counties served by the authority, the annual |
38
license user fee shall be levied and the Department of Highway |
39
Safety and Motor Vehicles shall remit the proceeds each month |
40
from the fee to the South Florida Regional Transportation |
41
Authority. If the governing body of one or more of the counties |
42
fails to approve the levy of the annual license user fee, the |
43
fee may not be imposed within any county served by the South |
44
Florida Regional Transportation Authority. |
