Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
21
22
Section 1. Section 258.166, Florida Statutes, is created |
23
to read: |
24
258.166 George Kirkpatrick State Reserve designated.—There |
25
is designated and established a state reserve to be known as |
26
George Kirkpatrick State Reserve, in Marion and Putnam Counties, |
27
which shall include all state-owned lands within the floodplain |
28
of the Oklawaha River and those lands hereafter acquired by the |
29
state from Eureka Dam in Marion County to Buckman Lock in Putnam |
30
County. Those lands are deemed and held to be a state reserve, |
31
under the supervision of the Office of Greenways and Trails of |
32
the Department of Environmental Protection. The office is |
33
charged with the duty of providing for the development of |
34
multipurpose recreational opportunities at this reserve and the |
35
care, upkeep, maintenance, and beautification of the George |
36
Kirkpatrick State Reserve, including all those dams, locks, and |
37
other structures transferred by the Federal Government to the |
38
state. Any action that would substantially alter the area |
39
encompassing the reserve as the area existed on January 1, 2003, |
40
must be approved by general law. However, nothing in this |
41
section precludes the Office of Greenways and Trails of the |
42
Department of Environmental Protection from performing necessary |
43
maintenance and improvements as required for the continued |
44
operation of the dams, locks, or other structures and facilities |
45
within the state reserve.
46
(1) Public hunting is allowed in the state reserve as |
47
authorized by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
48
(2) The Division of State Lands of the Department of |
49
Environmental Protection may acquire in the name of the Board of |
50
Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund any additional |
51
property adjacent or contiguous to the George Kirkpatrick State |
52
Reserve from private owners or from the United States Government |
53
for improved management and recreational opportunities.
54
Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
