2	An act relating to school speed zones; amending s.
3	316.1895, F.S.; providing for the use of described
4	flashing beacons to designate school zone speed
5	restrictions; revising requirements for the Department of
6	Transportation to establish certain standards; providing
7	an effective date.

9	Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11	Section 1. Subsections (6) and (8) of section 316.1895,
12	Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
13	316.1895 Establishment of school speed zones, enforcement;
14	designation.--
15	(6) Permanent signs designating school zones and school
16	zone speed limits shall be uniform in size and color, and shall
17	have the times during which the restrictive speed limit is
18	enforced clearly designated thereon. Flashing beacons activated
19	by a time clock, or other automatic device, may be used as an
20	alternative to posting the times during which the restrictive
21	school speed limit is enforced.The Department of Transportation
22	shall establish adequate standards for the signs and flashing
23	beacons.
24	(8) Nothing herein shall prohibit the use of automatic
25	traffic control devices for the control of vehicular and
26	pedestrian traffic at school crossings in lieu of permanent or
27	portable school zone signs. The Department of Transportation
28	shall establish standards for automatic flashing signals.
29	Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
