school at the university; authorizing a bachelor of |

science in human performance degree program with a |

concentration in athletic training at the university; |

providing effective dates. |

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

|

Section 1. Effective July 1, 2003, subsection (2) of |
12
|
section 1002.32, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
13
|
1002.32 Developmental research (laboratory) schools.-- |
14
|
(2) ESTABLISHMENT.--There is established a category of |
15
|
public schools to be known as developmental research |
16
|
(laboratory) schools (lab schools). Each lab school shall |
17
|
provide sequential instruction and shall be affiliated with the |
18
|
college of education within the state university of closest |
19
|
geographic proximity. A lab school to which a charter has been |
20
|
issued under s. 1002.33(5)(b) must be affiliated with the |
21
|
college of education within the state university that issued the |
22
|
charter, but is not subject to the requirement that the state |
23
|
university be of closest geographic proximity. For the purpose |
24
|
of state funding, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical |
25
|
University, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast |
26
|
University,Florida State University, the University of Florida, |
27
|
and other universities approved by the State Board of Education |
28
|
and the Legislature are authorized to sponsor one or more lab |
29
|
schools. |

Section 2. A bachelor of science in human performance |
31
|
degree program with a concentration in athletic training is |
32
|
authorized at Florida Gulf Coast University. |
33
|
Section 3. Except as otherwise provided herein, this act |
34
|
shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
