| 2 | A resolution designating March 6, 2003, as “Apprenticeship | ||
| 3 | Day 2003” in Florida. | ||

| 5 | WHEREAS, apprenticeship training, a method of on-the-job | ||
| 6 | teaching and classroom instruction practiced world-wide, has | ||
| 7 | proven to be an efficient, economical way to preserve trade and | ||
| 8 | craft skills vital to a nation’s well-being, and | ||
| 9 | WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated repeatedly that | ||
| 10 | apprentices who have completed their training generally earn | ||
| 11 | higher salaries than do college graduates and that they are | ||
| 12 | likely to continue in their chosen fields, thus contributing to | ||
| 13 | a strong, healthy economy, and | ||
| 14 | WHEREAS, since Florida adopted apprenticeship training 55 | ||
| 15 | years ago, tens of thousands of students 16 years of age and | ||
| 16 | older have been equipped with the critical, industry-related | ||
| 17 | knowledge and arts of skilled, sought-after craftspersons, and | ||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Florida consistently ranks in the top 10 percent | ||
| 19 | nationally in the number of active apprenticeships, with 314 | ||
| 20 | programs currently training 11,953 apprentices, and | ||
| 21 | WHEREAS, the strengths of a steady, diversified workforce | ||
| 22 | are necessary for the state’s economy to flourish and maintain | ||
| 23 | its competitive edge both nationally and internationally, NOW, | ||
| 24 | THEREFORE, | ||

| 26 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of | ||
| 27 | Florida: | ||
| 28 | |||
| 29 | That March 6, 2003, be designated as “Apprenticeship Day | ||
| 30 | 2003” in Florida. | ||
