| 2 | A resolution designating April 2, 2003, as "Sexual Assault | ||

| 5 | WHEREAS, sexual assault continues to be a major social and | ||
| 6 | health crisis in our society, affecting countless children and | ||
| 7 | adults in Florida as victims, family members, friends, | ||
| 8 | neighbors, or coworkers, and | ||
| 9 | WHEREAS, volunteers and service providers in the state are | ||
| 10 | working to provide a continuum of care to sexual assault | ||
| 11 | survivors through law enforcement, 24-hour hotlines, counseling, | ||
| 12 | support groups, advocacy, medical care, and education, and | ||
| 13 | WHEREAS, with a vision of a population free from the threat | ||
| 14 | of sexual violence, Florida seeks to improve services for | ||
| 15 | victims of sexual assault and to prevent further such tragedies | ||
| 16 | through public awareness and concern, and | ||
| 17 | WHEREAS, it is a matter of utmost importance that the | ||
| 18 | residents of Florida be made increasingly aware of this scourge | ||
| 19 | on our communities and encouraged to support entities that | ||
| 20 | provide services to victims touched in any way by sexual | ||
| 21 | violence, NOW, THEREFORE, | ||

| 23 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of | ||
| 24 | Florida: | ||
| 25 | |||
| 26 | That the House of Representatives designates April 2, 2003, | ||
| 27 | as "Sexual Assault Awareness Day" in Florida. | ||
