1 House Resolution
2          A resolution recognizing the month of March 2003 as
3    National Kidney Month.
4         
5          WHEREAS, one in nine adults in the United States has kidney
6    disease, and most of the more than 20 million Americans with the
7    disease do not know it, and
8          WHEREAS, another 20 million are at increased risk of
9    developing the disease due to diabetes, high blood pressure, or
10    a family history of kidney disease, and
11          WHEREAS, more than 345,000 Americans, including 18,000
12    Floridians, suffer from chronic kidney failure and require
13    dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant to stay alive, and
14          WHEREAS, the National Kidney Foundation, the major
15    voluntary health agency in the nation and in Florida seeking
16    prevention and cures for diseases of the kidney and urinary
17    tract, is universally respected and recognized as a leader in
18    research and in promoting public awareness of kidney disease and
19    of the need for organ donors, and
20          WHEREAS, the volunteers and staff of the National Kidney
21    Foundation of Florida spend countless hours working to ease the
22    plight of dialysis patients, transplant recipients, and others
23    in our communities who suffer from kidney disease, NOW,
24    THEREFORE,

26          Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27    Florida:
28         
29          That the House of Representatives wholeheartedly recognizes
30    the month of March 2003 as National Kidney Month, urges all
31    Florida residents to become more knowledgeable of the risks and
32    symptoms of kidney diseases, and applauds the volunteers and
33    staff of the National Kidney Foundation of Florida for their
34    efforts toward preventing and curing these diseases.
