A resolution recognizing the Ninth Annual Delta Days at |

the Florida Capitol. |

WHEREAS, since its inception in January 1913 by 22 |
6
|
outstanding women at Howard University in Washington, D. C., |
7
|
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been a vehicle for advocacy, |
8
|
effecting social change and public policy through its Social |
9
|
Action Commission, and |
10
|
WHEREAS, nearly six weeks after its founding, the first |
11
|
public act of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was its participation |
12
|
in the Women’s Suffrage Movement demanding rights for women, and |
13
|
WHEREAS, the Sorority is a sisterhood of college-educated |
14
|
women committed to implementing the sorority’s mission through |
15
|
its Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational |
16
|
Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness, |
17
|
and International Awareness and Involvement, and |
18
|
WHEREAS, this organization recently celebrated 90 years of |
19
|
exemplary service and support to local communities, leading |
20
|
dialogue on public policy issues, supporting quality education, |
21
|
and producing new projects to stimulate current and future |
22
|
economic growth, and |
23
|
WHEREAS, with over 200,000 college-educated women in more |
24
|
than 950 chapters worldwide, 47 of which are located in Florida |
25
|
and the Bahamas, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are |
26
|
clearly visible as corporate and civic leaders, productive |
27
|
public officials, acclaimed academicians, and activists, and |
28
|
WHEREAS, Delta Sorors of the Florida Legislature include |
29
|
Senator Larcenia Bullard and Representatives Joyce Cusack, |
30
|
Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, and Arthenia Joyner, NOW, |

|
THEREFORE, |

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

Florida: |

That the House of Representatives join the members of Delta |

Sigma Theta Sorority in observing the Ninth Annual Delta Days at |

|
the Florida Capitol. |

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |

|
presented to the Florida Leadership Team, Paulette C. Walker, |
41
|
Southern Regional Director; Shamen Sharelle Dailey; Martha Scott |
42
|
Lue; and Stacie Alderman, as a tangible token of the sentiments |
43
|
expressed herein. |
