1 House Resolution
2          A resolution honoring Miguel A. Estrada.
3         
4          WHEREAS, acclaimed by his colleagues, both conservatives
5    and liberals alike, as one of the most brilliant and effective
6    appellate lawyers of the country, Miguel A. Estrada has been
7    nominated by President Bush to fill a vacancy on the United
8    States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit,
9    one of the most prestigious courts of appeals in the nation, and
10          WHEREAS, a native of Honduras, Miguel Estrada arrived in
11    the United States at age 17 and within five years had adapted to
12    a new culture, mastered a new language, and received a
13    bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Columbia College in New
14    York City before enrolling in Harvard Law School, where he
15    earned his law degree magna cum laude, and
16          WHEREAS, demonstrating a remarkable command of the law and
17    an equally impressive ability to comprehend complicated legal
18    issues, Mr. Estrada was chosen early in his career for a Supreme
19    Court clerkship, among the most prestigious and competitive
20    positions a young attorney could obtain and one in which few
21    Hispanics have ever served, and
22          WHEREAS, Mr. Estrada's honesty and intellect, his deep
23    respect for the law and commitment to follow it faithfully
24    irrespective of his personal or political views, and his genuine
25    compassion and concern for all have earned him unparalleled
26    praise, trust, and support among his peers, in government
27    circles, and within the Hispanic community, NOW, THEREFORE,

29          Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30    Florida:

32          That the House of Representatives honors Miquel A. Estrada
33    for his superior talents and accomplishments and commends him as
34    a worthy role model, not only for all immigrants who make this
35    nation their home, but for all Americans who aspire to a better
36    life for themselves and their families.
37          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
38    presented to Miguel A. Estrada as a tangible token of the
39    sentiments expressed herein.
