1 House Resolution
2          A resolution honoring Major League Hall of Famer Gary
3    Carter.
4         
5          WHEREAS, Gary Edmund Carter was selected by the Montreal
6    Expos in the third round of the 1972 Major League Baseball free
7    agent draft and, in 1975, as a catcher-outfielder, the right-
8    handed slugger earned a place on his first All-Star team, an
9    achievement that proved to be a prediction of a remarkable
10    career of excellence in one of baseball's most demanding
11    positions, and
12          WHEREAS, Gary Carter led the New York Mets in a dramatic
13    seven-game World Series victory over the Boston Red Sox in 1986
14    when his two home-run hits and a double helped the Mets win Game
15    Four of the Series, his two-out single in the bottom of the 10th
16    inning of Game Six sparked a rally that resulted in a three-run
17    inning that gave the Mets a stunning victory, and in Game Seven,
18    he drove in the tying run that enabled the Mets to overcome a
19    three-run deficit to win the Series, and
20          WHEREAS, after retiring in 1992 from his 19-season major
21    league career with the Montreal Expos, New York Mets, San
22    Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers, Gary Carter continued
23    to be involved in baseball as a broadcaster and a roving minor
24    league catching instructor, and has helped raise millions of
25    dollars for the Leukemia Society of America, and
26          WHEREAS, on January 7, 2003, Gary Carter was elected to the
27    Major League Baseball of Fame, the first Montreal Expo ever
28    inducted and the highest form of praise given a player by the
29    major league, NOW, THEREFORE,

31          Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
32    Florida:

34          That the House of Representatives honors Palm Beach Gardens
35    resident Gary Edmund Carter for his outstanding professional and
36    athletic achievements.
37          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
38    presented to Gary Edmund Carter as a tangible token of the
39    sentiments expressed herein.
