| 5 | WHEREAS, entering his final season with the Dallas Cowboys, | ||
| 6 | running back Emmitt Smith needed only 540 yards to surpass the | ||
| 7 | record of the NFL's all-time leading rusher, a feat he | ||
| 8 | accomplished on October 27, 2002, with an 11-yard run in the | ||
| 9 | fourth quarter against Seattle, and | ||
| 10 | WHEREAS, the NFL's all-time leader for rushing yards, | ||
| 11 | rushing touchdowns, rushing attempts, 1,000-yard seasons, and | ||
| 12 | postseason rushing touchdowns, Emmitt Smith holds 43 Cowboys | ||
| 13 | records, and | ||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Emmitt Smith has played in nine Pro Bowls, has | ||
| 15 | made All-Pro four times, and was named NFL MVP in 1993, and | ||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Emmitt Smith starred on the Cowboys' Super Bowl | ||
| 17 | championship teams of 1992, 1993, and 1995, and was named Super | ||
| 18 | Bowl XXVIII MVP, NOW, THEREFORE, | ||

| 20 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of | ||

| 23 | That the members of the House of Representatives count it a | ||
| 24 | privilege to congratulate Emmitt Smith for his outstanding | ||
| 25 | accomplishments as an NFL running back and to proclaim April 10, | ||
| 26 | 2003, "Emmitt Smith Day" in Florida. | ||
| 27 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be | ||
| 28 | presented to Emmitt Smith as a tangible token of the sentiments | ||
| 29 | expressed herein. | ||
