1 House Resolution
2          A resolution honoring Superbowl MVP Dexter Jackson.
3         
4          WHEREAS, Dexter Lamar Jackson was born and reared in
5    Quincy, Florida, where, as a highly recruited quarterback on the
6    James A. Shanks High School Class 4A team, he earned first-team
7    honors on Florida's all-state squad and was named Big Bend
8    Offensive Player of the Year, and
9          WHEREAS, Dexter Jackson lettered four years at Florida
10    State University, during which time, as defensive back, he
11    amassed 194 tackles and seven interceptions, while earning a
12    degree in human and family science, and
13          WHEREAS, drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth
14    round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Dexter Jackson made his debut in
15    the Bucs' 13-10 win over Denver and in 2001, he "made a seamless
16    transition into Tampa Bay's starting lineup," and
17          WHEREAS, now in his fourth year in the NFL, among the
18    numerous accomplishments of his outstanding career, Dexter
19    Jackson made a season career-high three interceptions, two of
20    which were made during the 2003 Superbowl that pitted the Tampa
21    Bay Buccaneers against the Oakland Raiders, and
22          WHEREAS, following the #1 Buccaneers' January 26, 2003, 48-
23    21 victory over the Raiders in Superbowl XXXVII, Dexter Jackson
24    was named MVP, only the eighth defensive player to win the award
25    in the 37-year history of the game, NOW, THEREFORE,

27          Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28    Florida:

30          That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes Dexter
31    Jackson, winner of the Superbowl XXXVII MVP award, and extends
32    its heartiest congratulations and sincerest wishes for a long,
33    successful career.
34          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
35    presented to Dexter Jackson as a tangible token of the
36    sentiments expressed herein.
