1	House Resolution
2	A resolution honoring Dr. Horacio Aguirre.

4	WHEREAS, Dr. Horacio Aguirre was born of Nicaraguan parents
5	on April 20, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and has been
6	married for more than 50 years to the former Helen Craigle, with
7	whom he proudly shares six children, and
8	WHEREAS, after five years of experience as an editorial
9	writer for the Panamanian-based El Panama America, during which
10	time he earned a law and political science degree from the
11	University of Panama, Dr. Aguirre founded Diario Las Americas in
12	1953, a publication for which he remains active as both editor
13	and editorial writer, and
14	WHEREAS, among honors too numerous to include in this
15	allotted space, Dr. Aguirre has been decorated by the
16	governments of Panama, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, and Spain,
17	awarded honorary doctoral degrees in journalism from St. Thomas
18	and Barry Universities and the Cal Koven Award for Distinguished
19	Community Service from Florida International University, and
20	recognized with the Great Floridian Award, State of Florida, and
21	WHEREAS, Dr. Aguirre is a member of and holds office in a
22	number of national and international journalistic and
23	professional associations and committees, as well as boards of
24	civic and social organizations such as the Florida Grand Opera,
25	the Bath Club, and the Miami Art Museum, NOW, THEREFORE,
26
27	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28	Florida:

30	That the House of Representatives is privileged to
31	recognize Dr. Horacio Aguirre for his personal and professional
32	accomplishments and to express its genuine appreciation for his
33	outstanding contributions to his community and his state.
34	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
35	presented to Dr. Horacio Aguirre as a tangible token of the
36	sentiments expressed herein.
