1	House Resolution
2	A resolution proclaiming September 2003 as Take Your Dad
3	to School Month in Florida.

5	WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education
6	published a study in 1998 entitled “Fathers’ Involvement in
7	Their Children’s Schools” which revealed that children whose
8	fathers participate in their school activities, as compared to
9	their peers whose fathers do not, are more likely to have higher
10	test scores, better academic and attendance records, and fewer
11	behavior problems, and
12	WHEREAS, children who have the benefit of two supportive
13	parents, even if their parents are separated, are less likely to
14	live in poverty, are less likely to drop out of school, are less
15	likely to become involved in delinquent behavior, are less
16	likely to become involved in an abusive relationship, and are at
17	lower risk for teen pregnancy, and
18	WHEREAS, children who have the benefit of a healthy, active
19	relationship with their fathers are more likely to be well-
20	adjusted in adolescence and adulthood, and
21	WHEREAS, fathers are increasingly being encouraged by all
22	segments of society to take an active part in their children’s
23	activities, and
24	WHEREAS, children whose fathers are not present benefit
25	from a relationship with nurturing, actively involved father
26	figures such as a grandfathers, uncles, Big Brothers, and
27	mentors, and such men are increasingly taking an active role in
28	the lives of children whose biological fathers are absent, and
29	WHEREAS, men who are involved with their children feel
30	better about themselves and have greater success in their
31	careers and lives, NOW, THEREFORE,

33	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34	Florida:

36	That September 2003 is hereby proclaimed Take Your Dad to
37	School Month in Florida, and the House of Representatives extends
38	best wishes to all children and their fathers for a most enjoyable
39	adventure.
