| 5 | WHEREAS, Warren S. Henderson was born November 14, 1927, | ||
| 6 | in Exeter, New Hampshire, and earned a bachelor of arts degree | ||
| 7 | from Denison University before moving to Florida in 1955 and | ||
| 8 | settling in Sarasota County, where he quickly became involved | ||
| 9 | in civic affairs and public service, and | ||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Warren S. Henderson initiated his career in | ||
| 11 | public service in 1956 as a member of the Sarasota Planning and | ||
| 12 | Zoning Committee and served on a variety of boards and | ||
| 13 | authorities from 1960 until 1963, when he was elected to the | ||
| 14 | Florida Senate, and | ||
| 15 | WHEREAS, when reapportionment ended Senator Henderson's | ||
| 16 | term in the Senate in 1966, he was elected to the House of | ||
| 17 | Representatives for a year, after which he returned to the | ||
| 18 | Senate as a prominent leader of the Republican party, serving | ||
| 19 | with distinction in a myriad of leadership roles until 1984, | ||
| 20 | and | ||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Senator Henderson has been an effective advocate | ||
| 22 | for a variety of environmental issues, as evidenced by the | ||
| 23 | passage of the Warren S. Henderson Wetlands Protection Act of | ||
| 24 | 1984, and is a charter member of "1000 Friends of Florida," and | ||
| 25 | WHEREAS, for many years a member of the Board of Overseers | ||
| 26 | of the University of Florida Health Service Center, Senator | ||
| 27 | Henderson crafted a constellation of pro-child legislation and | ||
| 28 | was the primary sponsor of legislation creating the Children's | ||
| 29 | Medical Services Program, the primary state unit responsible | ||
| 30 | for children with special health care needs, and | ||
| 31 | WHEREAS, Senator Henderson has rendered many years of | ||
| 32 | invaluable public service to the people of Sarasota County, to | ||
| 33 | the people of the districts from which he was elected, and to | ||
| 34 | the people of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE, | ||

| 36 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of | ||
| 37 | Florida: | ||

| 39 | That the House of Representatives recognizes April 16, | ||
| 40 | 2003, as "Warren S. Henderson Day" in the State of Florida. | ||
| 41 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be | ||
| 42 | presented to Warren S. Henderson as a tangible token of the | ||
| 43 | sentiments expressed herein. | ||
