A resolution honoring Raymond Santiago, the nation's "2003 |

Librarian of the Year." |

|
WHEREAS, appointed Director of the Miami-Dade Public |
6
|
Library in 1998, Raymond Santiago has been named "2003 Librarian |
7
|
of the Year" by the prestigious Library Journal, the most widely |
8
|
read and circulated magazine in library circles, and |
9
|
WHEREAS, the coveted award is presented each year to a |
10
|
professional librarian for "outstanding achievements and |
11
|
accomplishments reflecting the loftiest service goals of the |
12
|
library profession," and |
13
|
WHEREAS, Director Santiago was chosen from a list of |
14
|
national nominees that had been narrowed to 40 professionals who |
15
|
had "demonstrated a commitment to the free access to information |
16
|
for all; the encouragement of reading; the creation of |
17
|
inducements to greater use of books and other library materials |
18
|
and information sources; the enhancement and expansion of |
19
|
library services to all areas and constituencies in the |
20
|
community; and the strengthening of the library role and |
21
|
position in the community,” and |
22
|
WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 10, 2003, the Miami-Dade Public |
23
|
Library System will honor Library Director Raymond Santiago upon |
24
|
his being honored as the Library Journal "2003 Librarian of the |
25
|
Year," NOW, THEREFORE, |

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

|
Florida: |

That the House of Representatives extends its sincere |

|
congratulations to Miami-Dade Public Library Director Raymond |

|
Santiago, recipient of the Library Journal's prestigious award, |

|
and further congratulates the citizens of Miami-Dade County upon |

|
their library director's selection as "Librarian of the Year" |

|
for 2003. |

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |

presented to Raymond Santiago as a tangible token of the |

|
sentiments expressed herein. |
