19	(38) "Catastrophic injury" means a permanent impairment
20	constituted by:
21	(a) Spinal cord injury involving severe paralysis of an
22	arm, a leg, or the trunk;
23	(b) Amputation of an arm, a hand, a foot, or a leg
24	involving the effective loss of use of that appendage;
25	(c) Severe brain or closed-head injury as evidenced by:
26	1. Severe sensory or motor disturbances;
27	2. Severe communication disturbances;
28	3. Severe complex integrated disturbances of cerebral
29	function;
30	4. Severe episodic neurological disorders; or
31	5. Other severe brain and closed-head injury conditions at
32	least as severe in nature as any condition provided in
33	subparagraphs 1.-4.;
34	(d) Second-degree or third-degree burns of 25 percent or
35	more of the total body surface or third-degree burns of 5
36	percent or more to the face and hands;
37	(e) Total or industrial blindness; or
38	(f) Any other injury that would otherwise qualify under
39	this chapter of a nature and severity that would qualify an
40	employee to receive disability income benefits under Title II or
41	supplemental security income benefits under Title XVI of the
42	federal Social Security Act as the Social Security Act existed
43	on July 1, 1992, without regard to any time limitations provided
44	under that act.
