  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to student recipients of

  3         scholarships from eligible nonprofit

  4         scholarship-funding organizations; amending s.

  5         220.187, F.S.; requiring the parent of such a

  6         student to ensure that the student takes

  7         required statewide assessments; requiring

  8         school districts to provide locations and times

  9         for students to take such assessments;

10         providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  Paragraph (c) of subsection (2) and

15  subsection (5) of section 220.187, Florida Statutes, are

16  amended, present subsections (6), (7), and (8) of that section

17  are redesignated as subsections (7), (8), and (9),

18  respectively, and a new subsection (6) is added to that

19  section, to read:

20         220.187  Credits for contributions to nonprofit

21  scholarship-funding organizations.--

22         (2)  DEFINITIONS.--As used in this section, the term:

23         (c)  "Eligible nonpublic school" means a nonpublic

24  school located in Florida that offers an education to students

25  in any grades K-12 and that meets the requirements in

26  subsection (7)(5).

27         (5)  PARENT OBLIGATIONS.--As a condition for

28  scholarship payment pursuant to paragraph (4)(g), if the

29  parent chooses for his or her child to attend an eligible

30  nonpublic school, the parent must inform the child's school

31  district within 15 days after such decision. The parent of a

 1  student who participates in the tax credit scholarship program

 2  shall ensure that the student takes all statewide assessments

 3  required under s. 1008.22.

 4         (6)  SCHOOL DISTRICT OBLIGATIONS.--The school district

 5  shall provide locations and times for students in the school

 6  district who are participating in the tax credit scholarship

 7  program to take all statewide assessments required under s.

 8  1008.22.

 9         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.
