  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to legal holidays; amending s.

  3         683.01, F.S.; deleting Confederate Memorial Day

  4         and the birthday of Jefferson Davis as legal

  5         holidays in this state; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Section 683.01, Florida Statutes, is

11  amended to read:

12         683.01  Legal holidays.--

13         (1)  The legal holidays, which are also public

14  holidays, are the following:

15         (a)  Sunday, the first day of each week.

16         (b)  New Year's Day, January 1.

17         (c)  Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., January 15.

18         (d)  Birthday of Robert E. Lee, January 19.

19         (e)  Lincoln's Birthday, February 12.

20         (f)  Susan B. Anthony's Birthday, February 15.

21         (g)  Washington's Birthday, the third Monday in

22  February.

23         (h)  Good Friday.

24         (i)  Pascua Florida Day, April 2.

25         (j)  Confederate Memorial Day, April 26.

26         (j)(k)  Memorial Day, the last Monday in May.

27         (l)  Birthday of Jefferson Davis, June 3.

28         (k)(m)  Flag Day, June 14.

29         (l)(n)  Independence Day, July 4.

30         (m)(o)  Labor Day, the first Monday in September.

 1         (n)(p)  Columbus Day and Farmers' Day, the second

 2  Monday in October.

 3         (o)(q)  Veterans' Day, November 11.

 4         (p)(r)  General Election Day.

 5         (q)(s)  Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in

 6  November.

 7         (r)(t)  Christmas Day, December 25.

 8         (s)(u)  Shrove Tuesday, sometimes also known as "Mardi

 9  Gras," in counties where carnival associations are organized

10  for the purpose of celebrating the same.

11         (2)  Whenever any legal holiday shall fall upon a

12  Sunday, the Monday next following shall be deemed a public

13  holiday for all and any of the purposes aforesaid.

14         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.
