House Memorial
2A memorial to the Congress of the United States urging
3Congress to pass H.R. 3190 and S. 1558 and to propose, for
4ratification by the states, an amendment to the United
5States Constitution that would preclude any prohibition or
6limitation on the recital or display of historical verses,
7mottos, or documents referencing God in any public place.

9     WHEREAS, the 108th Congress has introduced in the United
10State House of Representatives H.R. 3190, the "Safeguarding Our
11Religious Liberties Act," and
12     WHEREAS, the Florida House of Representatives requests all
13members of the United States House of Representatives
14representing the State of Florida to cosponsor H.R. 3190, and
15     WHEREAS, the 108th Congress has introduced in the United
16States Senate S. 1558, the "Religious Liberties Restoration
17Act," and
18     WHEREAS, the Florida House of Representatives requests
19United States Senators Bob Graham and Bill Nelson, representing
20the State of Florida, to cosponsor S. 1558, and
21     WHEREAS, the Florida House of Representatives encourages
22the United States Senate and the United States House of
23Representatives to propose, for ratification by the states, an
24amendment to the Constitution of the United States to read that
25nothing in the Constitution shall be construed to prohibit or
26otherwise limit the practice of individual or group prayer, the
27reading or posting of the Ten Commandments, the recital of the
28Pledge of Allegiance, and the display of the motto "In God We
29Trust" or similar phrases from historical documents referencing
30God in any public place, including a school; nor shall it
31require any person to join in prayer or other religious
32activity, NOW, THEREFORE,

34Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

36     That the Congress of the United States is encouraged to
37pass H.R. 3190 and S. 1558 and to propose, for ratification by
38the states, an amendment to the United States Constitution that
39would preclude any prohibition or limitation on the recital or
40display of historical verses, mottos, or documents referencing
41God in any public place.
42     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
43dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
44President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
45United States House of Representatives, and to each member of
46the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
