2 A resolution recognizing and celebrating
3 Parents' Day in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, in 1994, the Congress of the United States
6 proclaimed that the fourth Sunday in July of every year is to
7 be celebrated as "Parents' Day," and
8 WHEREAS, the family unit is the most fundamental of all
9 organizational elements of civilized society, and is the
10 primary source of the behavioral influences that develop
11 ethical character, moral values, and the capacity of children
12 to accept and responsibly perform their duties to others and
13 themselves, and
14 WHEREAS, parents are best positioned to influence the
15 growth and development of their children from the moment of
16 their birth through their adolescent years to know right from
17 wrong; to have the values necessary to be impelled to choose
18 right instead of wrong; to be selfless enough to be aware of
19 and have compassionate concern for other people; to always try
20 to make their best efforts to accomplish the things they
21 undertake to do without attempting to diminish anyone else; to
22 readily and honestly acknowledge their mistakes with genuine
23 humility; and to continually try to fully develop their
24 God-given talents, completely realize their potential
25 capabilities, and become all they can and should be for others
26 and themselves, and
27 WHEREAS, the observance of Parents' Day is intended to
28 serve as a reminder of the indispensable importance of
29 successful marriages, wholesome lifestyles, and responsible
30 parenting to ensure sound development of the young people who
31 will be leading the world into the future, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the Florida Senate recognizes the fourth Sunday in
4 July of every year as "Parents' Day" in Florida, and
5 encourages all parents to commit themselves to responsible and
6 nurturing parenting to ensure sound development of their
7 children and a healthier society.
