1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to reimbursement for trauma
3 center services; amending s. 395.403, F.S.;
4 revising a legislative finding; requiring
5 trauma centers to include in certain claims the
6 cost of certain medically necessary services
7 provided by certain persons; requiring such
8 centers to pay such persons amounts paid for
9 such services under a claim; providing an
10 effective date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 395.403, Florida
15 Statutes, is amended, subsection (8) is renumbered as
16 subsection (9), and a new subsection (8) is added to that
17 section, to read:
18 395.403 Reimbursement of state-sponsored trauma
19 centers.--
20 (1) The Legislature finds that many hospitals,
21 physicians, and health care professionals that which provide
22 services to trauma victims are not adequately compensated for
23 such treatment. The Legislature also recognizes that the
24 current verified trauma centers are providing such services
25 without adequate reimbursement. Therefore, it is the intent of
26 the Legislature to provide financial support to the current
27 verified trauma centers and to establish a system of
28 state-sponsored trauma centers as soon as feasibly possible.
29 It is also the intent of the Legislature that this system of
30 state-sponsored trauma centers be assisted financially based

1 on the volume and acuity of uncompensated trauma care
2 provided.
3 (8) A state-sponsored trauma center shall include the
4 cost of medically necessary services rendered by physicians
5 and other health care professionals to eligible patients at
6 such center in each claim submitted and pay such physicians
7 and health care professionals any amount paid by the state for
8 such services under the claim.
9 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
10 law.
