4 | "stipend" applicable to respite care volunteers; amending |
5 | ss. 430.204 and 430.205, F.S.; requiring the department to |
6 | fund certain community care and core services for the |
7 | elderly; amending s. 430.502, F.S.; establishing a memory |
8 | disorder clinic at a specified location; providing an |
9 | effective date. |

11 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
12 |
|
13 | Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of section |
14 | 430.071, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
15 | 430.071 Respite for elders living in everyday families.-- |
16 | (1) As used in this section, the term: |
17 | (c) "Stipend" means an allotment of funds to enable a |
18 | diverse population of volunteers to provide services. The |
19 | allotment of funds is for a maximum hourly rate that shall not |
20 | exceed an amount equal to the federal minimum wage period of |
21 | service and is not an hourly wage. |
22 | Section 2. Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section |
23 | 430.204, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
24 | 430.204 Community-care-for-the-elderly core services; |
25 | departmental powers and duties.-- |

27 | (b) For fiscal year 2003-2004 only, The department shall |
28 | fund, through each area agency on aging in each county as |
29 | defined in s. 125.011(1), more than one community care service |
30 | system the primary purpose of which is the prevention of |
31 | unnecessary institutionalization of functionally impaired |
32 | elderly persons through the provision of community-based core |
33 | services. This paragraph expires July 1, 2004. |
34 | Section 3. Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section |
35 | 430.205, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
36 | 430.205 Community care service system.-- |

38 | (b) For fiscal year 2003-2004 only, The department shall |
39 | fund, through the area agency on aging in each county as defined |
40 | in s. 125.011(1), more than one community care service system |
41 | that provides case management and other in-home and community |
42 | services as needed to help elderly persons maintain independence |
43 | and prevent or delay more costly institutional care. This |
44 | paragraph expires July 1, 2004. |
45 | Section 4. Paragraphs (j) and (k) of subsection (1) of |
46 | section 430.502, Florida Statutes, are amended, and paragraph |
47 | (l) is added to said subsection, to read: |
48 | 430.502 Alzheimer's disease; memory disorder clinics and |
49 | day care and respite care programs.-- |
50 | (1) There is established: |
51 | (j) A memory disorder clinic at Lee Memorial Hospital |
52 | created by chapter 63-1552, Laws of Florida, as amended; and |
53 | (k) A memory disorder clinic at Sarasota Memorial Hospital |
54 | in Sarasota County; and, |
55 | (l) A memory disorder clinic at Morton Plant Hospital in |
56 | Pinellas County |

58 | for the purpose of conducting research and training in a |
59 | diagnostic and therapeutic setting for persons suffering from |
60 | Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders. However, |
61 | memory disorder clinics funded as of June 30, 1995, shall not |
62 | receive decreased funding due solely to subsequent additions of |
63 | memory disorder clinics in this subsection. |
64 | Section 5. This act shall take effect July 1, 2004. |
