  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Lowry Park Zoo;

  3         recognizing the Lowry Park Zoo as a state

  4         center for Florida species conservation and

  5         biodiversity; providing for construction;

  6         providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  The Lowry Park Zoo, a not-for-profit

11  corporation located in the City of Tampa, is hereby recognized

12  as a state center for Florida species conservation and

13  biodiversity, including captive breeding, animal husbandry,

14  conservation education, veterinary care and rescue,

15  rehabilitation, research, and release of Florida's endangered

16  and threatened wildlife species, including, but not limited

17  to, the Florida manatee, Florida panther, red wolf, Key deer,

18  Key Largo wood rat, and whooping crane. Such recognition shall

19  not be construed as exempting the Lowry Park Zoo from the

20  regulatory purview of the Florida Fish and Wildlife

21  Conservation Commission.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

23  law.

25          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
26                         Senate Bill 1870

28  Committee Substitute for Senate Bill 1870 is different from
    Senate Bill 1870 in that it specifies that the designation of
29  the Lowry Park Zoo, as the state center for Florida species
    conservation and biodiversity, does not exempt it from the
30  regulatory purview of the Florida Fish and Wildlife
    Conservation Commission.
