2 An act relating to educational enhancement;
3 amending s. 24.115, F.S.; providing for
4 distribution of unclaimed lottery prize moneys
5 to specified educational institutions;
6 providing guidelines for expenditure of such
7 moneys; providing applicability; providing an
8 effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Subsection (2) of section 24.115, Florida
13 Statutes, is amended to read:
14 24.115 Payment of prizes.--
15 (2) All unclaimed prize money shall be distributed to
16 each institution under the authority of a district school
17 board, including, but not limited to, a kindergarten,
18 elementary school, secondary school, and technical center, or
19 under the authority of a community college district board of
20 trustees pro rata based on the proportion that the number of
21 students enrolled in that institution bears to the total
22 number of students enrolled in all such institutions in the
23 state added to the pool from which future prizes are to be
24 awarded or used for special prize promotions.
25 Section 2. Unclaimed lottery prize moneys distributed
26 to an educational institution shall be expended at the
27 discretion of the institution's principal or president, or the
28 person serving in that capacity by whatever title known, but
29 the expenditure must have as its purpose the advancement of
30 one of the priorities of the education system which are
31 described in section 1000.03, Florida Statutes.

1 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
2 law and shall apply to any prize money that becomes unclaimed
3 after that date.

8 colleges to further the priorities of the state's K-20
education system.
