  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to public school teachers;

  3         creating s. 1011.63, F.S.; requiring the

  4         Legislature to fund a cost-of-living increase

  5         in the General Appropriations Act for teachers

  6         who teach prekindergarten through grade 12 in

  7         the public school system; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Section 1011.63, Florida Statutes, is

13  created to read:

14         1011.63  Cost-of-living increase for public school

15  teachers.--The Legislature, in the General Appropriations Act,

16  shall fund a cost-of-living increase for all teachers in the

17  public school system, prekindergarten through grade 12 as

18  defined in s. 1012.01(2)(a). This section may not be construed

19  to conflict with the provisions of chapter 447.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.
