House Resolution
3A resolution requesting the Congressional Delegation of
4the State of Florida to support federal legislation to
5immediately and permanently repeal the death tax.

7     WHEREAS, under tax relief legislation passed in 2001, the
8death tax was temporarily phased out but not permanently
9eliminated, and
10     WHEREAS, farmers and other small business owners will face
11losing their farms and businesses if the Federal Government
12resumes the heavy taxation of citizens at death, and
13     WHEREAS, this is a tax that is particularly damaging to
14families who are working their way up the ladder and trying to
15accumulate wealth for the first time, and
16     WHEREAS, employees suffer layoffs when small and medium-
17size businesses are liquidated to pay death taxes, and
18     WHEREAS, if the death tax had been repealed in 1996, the
19economy of the United States would have realized billions of
20dollars each year in extra output and an average of 145,000
21additional new jobs would have been created, and
22     WHEREAS, having repeatedly passed in the United States
23House of Representatives and Senate, repeal of the death tax
24holds wide bipartisan support, NOW, THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27Florida:

29     That the House of Representatives of the State of Florida
30requests our elected Representatives and Senators in the United
31States Congress to support federal legislation to immediately
32and permanently repeal the death tax.
33     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
34transmitted to the members of the Congressional Delegation of
35the State of Florida.
