  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing and commending Angela

  3         Gittens.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, as Director of the Miami-Dade County Aviation

  6  Department, Angela Gittens capably oversees operation of the

  7  Miami International Airport and five general aviation airports

  8  in Dade County, Florida, and

  9         WHEREAS, Ms. Gittens is presently directing one of the

10  largest airport-expansion projects in the country, a

11  capital-improvement program of 4.8 billion which will expand

12  and modernize concession facilities, build a new runway and

13  new terminals, and add roadways and other infrastructure to

14  increase the capacity and improve the efficiency of air

15  traffic through the Miami International Airport, and

16         WHEREAS, before appointment to her present position,

17  Ms. Gittens acquired invaluable experience in professional

18  airport administration, serving as Deputy Director for

19  Business and Finance at San Francisco International Airport,

20  as General Manager of Atlanta's Hartsfield International

21  Airport where she led the airport's preparation for the 1996

22  Centennial Olympic Games, and as Vice-President of TBI Airport

23  Management, Inc., and

24         WHEREAS, Ms. Gittens is widely recognized for her

25  involvement in government and trade organizations that support

26  the airport administration profession, including membership on

27  the FAA Research Engineering & Development Advisory Committee,

28  the NASA National Research Council Task Force, the American

29  Association of Airport Executives Policy Committee, the

30  Airports Council International North America Goals and

31  Programs Committee, the Board of Directors of the Florida

 1  Airports Council, and the Board of Directors of the Free Trade

 2  Agreement of the Americas, and

 3         WHEREAS, Ms. Gittens has received numerous awards

 4  recognizing and honoring her extraordinary career

 5  accomplishments as a leader among airport administration

 6  professionals, including Governing Magazine's "Top Public

 7  Official of the Year" and the "Magnificent Seven, Business &

 8  Professional Women-USA Award," NOW, THEREFORE,

 9  

10  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

11  

12         That the Florida Senate recognizes Angela Gittens for

13  her extraordinary career accomplishments as an airport

14  administrator, and commends her invaluable service in leading

15  the operation of the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department to

16  enhance its capacity to facilitate worldwide efficient and

17  economical movement of air traffic through Miami-Dade County,

18  the State of Florida, and the United States.
